The fall of 2023 we shared a book from Sue Nilson Kibbey called Open Book – The Adventure of a Breakthrough Prayer Initiative. We learned that there are a variety of prayers that we can write and share together throughout the year. After Pastor’s Sunday School class read the book, we wrote the following prayer that we can use throughout this year:
Creator God we praise your name in All of Creation
We wait on you knowing that your timing is perfect
Create in us a clean heart and renew our minds
May we reflect your transformation
That while we worship you as God of the universe,
You know us by name, you know your people
You know this church, and this community
You love us and desire connection with all your creation
Lord, While there are many paths
Please help us to discern your path forward
To recognize your voice calling out to us
Even in the noise of our culture and the difficult times that we live
May your voice ring clear to our hearts and in our ears
Help us to practice discernment and help us to surrender
In your time and through your will
May we see young families from our neighborhood
Help us to see how to serve best
To put aside our own desires to recognize the needs of others
Knowing that you will provide for each and every need
May we not be afraid of change, instead help us to grow
May we grow in our understanding and in Faith
Knowing that faith is the substance of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not seen.
Make Room in our hearts for what you have in store for Edgewood UMC
And for our community
And now, O Glorious and blessed God,
We freely and heartily yield all things to your pleasure and disposal
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
Thou art ours, and we are yours, So be it.
And the Covenant that we have made here on earth,
Let it be ratified in heaven, AMEN.
